Youth in Action

Get involved!
If you - or a young person you know:

Get involved with Youth in Action and help change people's lives!

Youth aged 13 to 24 years old are encouraged to identify a need in their own community, gather a group of friends, create a plan to address the need, discuss the proposed project with us and complete an application form.  If your project is accepted, you could receive up to $1,000 in funding for the project.

How do I get started?

  1. Review some basic criteria and a sample application form to give you an idea of what you'll need to consider for your project.
  2. Contact Jeff Preston at 519-438-1723 ext. 249 to discuss your project and get an application form.

About Youth in Action
United Way is committed to nurturing leadership and voluntarism in young people in order to support their initiative and contribution to the development of a strong and caring community.

One of the ways United Way offers youth the unique opportunity to play a more active role and have some decision-making power in their communities is through our Youth in Action program. Youth in Action is sponsored by London Life through the national corporate citizenship program of Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life.

Youth in Action provides small grants to youth-initiated and youth-led volunteer teams that have developed a creative action plan to address a community issue that is important to them. With the support of teachers, principals, community leaders, their peers, United Way and others, Youth in Action participants develop their own solutions and responses to the problems that concern them. They learn skills necessary to design, implement, monitor and evaluate meaningful and relevant community projects.
