Position: Resource Development Officer - Major Gifts
Reports to: Director, Resource Development
Primary functions:
This is a resource development position responsible fundraising at the leadership level and major gift level. Working with the Major Gifts team to set, meet, and evaluate organizational targets for leadership giving and major gifts. The Resource Development Officer, MG is responsible for raising funds, building and maintaining relationships with donors and prospective donors, understanding community needs and managing associated administrative and database requirements.
Specific duties:
- Development, implementation and evaluation of strategies and tactics necessary for building successful leadership and major gifts
- Develop appropriate strategies and implement comprehensive donor stewardship and recognition programs that ensure all major donors feel a strong and ongoing relationship with United Way
- Work with the Development Officer in charge of prospect identification and research activities / database management that will generate a strong and productive leadership/major gift prospect pool
- Work with the Resource Development Managers of Workplace Campaigns to identify leaders and major gift donors
- Facilitate and support volunteer committees and individual volunteers associated with leadership and major gifts
- Manage the overall solicitation process including preparing proposals and preparing volunteers for donor meetings
- Assist in the identification, design and implementation of new fundraising opportunities to increase revenue for new initiatives
- Develop and maintain a program of allegiance with allied professionals to ensure United Way is positioned for those with ability and interest in philanthropic contributions
- Maintain a good working knowledge of United Way, its work, and results
- Work with staff at all levels of the organization -- Resource Development, Community Services, Finance, and Communications -- and provide information and support as required to meet United Way goals
- Represent the organization at public speaking engagements
- Participate in Mid-Campaign reviews, Campaign On-sites, and the annual campaign conferences
- Facilitate internal or external training sessions as required
- Make regular progress reports to Associate Director, Major Gifts
- Perform other duties as required
Job attributes:

- Much of the job involves interaction with other staff and departments to help ensure donor continuity in attaining United Way's goals

- Post secondary education. Degree or diploma in fund development, management or business or other relevant degree and/or equivalent experience

Position: Community Mobilizer
Reports to: Director, Community Services
Job summary:
The Community Mobilizer is responsible for engaging with volunteers and community partners to build individual, community and sector capacity and for providing recommendations regarding volunteer engagement activity and investment to achieve community impact. The Community Mobilizer is responsible for leading a portfolio of programs that work to recruit, train, engage, and mobilize volunteers and community organizations.
Responsibilities & activities:
- Strategically builds and maintains volunteer relationships to develop affinity to United Way and its mission, with a particular focus on youth and young adults
- Supports partnerships that have similar goals for volunteer and community engagement
- Contributes to learning, research and evaluation initiatives
- Supports all United Way business units to strengthen organizational capacity to achieve greater community impact
Specific duties:
Strategically builds and maintains volunteer relationships to develop affinity to United Way and its mission
- Recruits, trains and engages volunteers to create community impact in an identified area
- Establishes regular communication with past and current volunteers to ensure information sharing and engagement
Uses innovative strategies to engage volunteers in social issues in our community
Supports partnerships that have shared outcomes for volunteer and community engagement
- Leads, links and leverages through involvement in strategic community initiatives
- Facilitates conversations with funded agencies to build their capacity around community impact
- Convenes community partners to ensure transparency of United Way
- Collaborates and participates in initiatives involving multiple stakeholders
Contributes to learning, research and evaluation initiatives
- Establishes and implements outcome evaluation to measure the impact of programs and activities
- Monitors, review and provides recommendations regarding programs and activities
- Identifies best practices through research to inform program and collaborative work
- Participates in the creation and implementation of strategic plans and Community Impact plans
Supports all United Way business units to strengthen organizational capacity to achieve greater community impact
- Provides advice, expertise, and support to other units regarding assigned agencies, community initiatives and strategies, and special projects
- Assists Resource Development team to design products for donors
- Assists Communications team to provide content for donor engagement materials and events
- Works closely with Communications team to implement innovative events and engagement strategies for volunteers
Job Attributes

- Requires valid driver’s license and own transportation
- Multiple deadlines; multi-tasking; pressure during peak seasons
- May be required to assist other United Way staff with administrative function or special events
Skills and personal attributes:
- Proven experience working with volunteers, with a particular focus on youth and young adults
- Proven experience and skill in building relationships in the community and with multiple stakeholders
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders groups from different sectors and different cultural contexts
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience working with social technology
- Ability to adapt and find creative solutions in a changing work environment with multiple deadlines and pressures
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office programs
- Requires a minimum general university degree (e.g. General B.A.) or equivalent in related field
