United Way Sponsored Employees, Campaign Cabinet members and Board of Directors enter into friendly StairClimb competition

October 30, 2009

United Way’s 2009 StairClimb, The Climb of the Penguins, is fast approaching and some friendly competition is taking place between United Way Sponsored Employees, volunteer Board and Campaign Cabinet members.

With this year's StairClimb goal set at $150,000, United Way Campaign Cabinet members decided they would up the ante and challenged the Sponsored Employees and Board of Directors as to who could raise more money for the climb.

“The challenge is about engaging new participants and donors, having fun with colleagues and friends and obviously raising money for United Way” says Chirag Shah, United Way’s 2009 Campaign Chair and Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Gillian Webster, a United Way of London & Middlesex Sponsored Employee from CPRI who accepted the challenge, is looking forward to her first StairClimb adventure.

“I have heard about how much fun this event is and I look forward to making this the first of many.” When asked why she accepted the challenge Webster responded “I believe in the generosity and goodwill of those who are able to give, and I really think this year people realize there are many who need help more than ever. I challenged myself to give more this year, and I know others will too.”

Participating in her first climb, Sandy Whittall, Chair of United Way Board of Directors, echoes the theme of the exciting event, saying she too is looking forward to the day.

The 2009 StairClimb is Thursday, November 5. More than 2,000 participants will take on the 472 steps to the top of London’s tallest building, raising funds.

Individuals and teams can still register online and download pledge forms at www.uwlondon.on.ca. Participants can also collect pledges online from family, friends and coworkers. For more information: Phone 519-438-1721 or visit United Way, 409 King Street, London Ontario.
