Many easy ways to invest in your own community

October 16, 2009

Workplace campaigns are in full swing around London and Middlesex County. Book sales, raffles, pancake breakfasts and chili lunches are keeping employees busy, entertained and well fed.

Workplace campaigns play a significant role in reaching United Way’s fundraising goals. Last year, employee donations through workplace campaigns accounted for approximately 62 per cent of the $7.3 million raised during United Way’s Campaign.

Employee dedication and the organizational commitment it takes to run such campaigns is something that is never lost on United Way of London & Middlesex staff. But what happens when a workplace campaign doesn’t exist; when payroll deductions aren’t possible; and no one's baking cookies for a bake sale?

The answer is simple; there are other easy and fun ways to contribute to United Way’s annual Campaign.

In addition to phone and online donations, there are many community fundraising events, including Rainbow Cinemas Midnight Movie Marathon and United Way’s StairClimb. Events like these are open to the public and are a great way to get involved while giving back. Can’t participate? Why not support a friend, neighbour or co-worker who is? Any donations $10 and over are issued tax receipts. Just go to uwlondon.on.ca to learn more.

This year United Way has also been fortunate enough to have teamed up with Imperial Oil and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO). Until the end of October, with the purchase of a $25 Esso United Way-Centraide gift card, Imperial will donate $2 to United Way-Centraide Movement. Everyone has to fill up, so why not purchase a gift card and donate at the same time?

This October the LCBO is also giving their customers the opportunity to give to United Way through donations at their checkouts. So when picking up your bottle of wine for the weekend, why not add $2 to your bill? Every bit counts and it’s a quick, convenient way to give back to our community.

More than ever the needs in our community are great. And, more than ever we have many opportunities to respond. Together we have the power to make a real difference in people’s lives in our own community.
