Day of Caring 2009

More than 400 employees from workplaces throughout London and Middlesex County stepped out of their day-to-day work routine on May 26 and June 11 to help with United Way Day of Caring 2009. On June 11, the volunteers endured pouring rain with smiles on their faces (what dedication!)
During the 11th annual event, volunteers helped United Way funded agencies with spring cleaning projects. In the process, these United Way supporters witnessed the frontlines of community services - & services helped made possible through our & support of & United Way's annual Campaign.

& Electromotive Diesel/ CAW Local 27 at Crouch

Volunteers from Electromotive Diesel/CAW Local 27 did not let the rain deter them & from planting,
weeding and sprucing up the Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Centre’s Community Gardens.

& Ford Talbotville/CAW Local 1520 at FSTV

Ford Talbotville/CAW Local 1520 volunteers raked, mulched and made the lawns of Family Service
Thames Valley pristine! Heather really put her back into her work!

“Thanks to the ongoing, generous event sponsorship of The Co-Operators, Day of Caring provides a meaningful opportunity for United Way supporters to see first-hand where their investment makes a real difference,” said Ruth Young, Acting CEO of United Way of London & Middlesex. “This event is a great way for workplace volunteers to trade their typical workday and make a positive difference in our community. It promotes volunteerism and teamwork.”
Thank you volunteers for a successful day of hard work. See many more & photos from & Day of Caring 2009!

Drive to Work Campaign

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) is on the road in Ontario for good jobs, strong public services, and healthy communities. Here's what the OFL's & Drive to Work Campaign is all about:
People and communities are hurting because of job loss and service cuts in Ontario. There’s a caravan of folks who want to tell and hear the stories behind the statistics. We’re travelling through more than 50 towns and cities in June.
Will you join us and help make a difference? We’d love to hear from you and to see you at events. We’re connected to unions and community partners, including faith and anti-poverty groups. No one and no community is alone in this struggle. Together, we know what action is needed. And together, we can make the government listen.
We left from two points - & Kenora and Oshawa - & on Monday, June 8. A third group left from Geraldton on Tuesday. The three groups met in Sudbury this weekend and will continue together. We finish in Toronto on Thursday, June 25.
Along the way, we’re making news and gathering stories. We’re uploading videos to youtube and photos to flickr. There are updates on twitter and discussions on facebook. You can access everything by category and by region on this site. And to keep you up to date with the latest on the third-party sites, here’s the stream of activity.
